October 2, 2025 – TheNewswire - Calgary, Alberta - The GOOD Games, Canada’s biggest festival of sport, will launch its Winter Edition in Calgary on Family Day weekend, February 13 to 15, 2026, at the BMO Centre as part of Chinook Blast. This is the next step in our movement for movement, a national effort to inspire Canadians to move, play, and connect all year long.
“Holding the Winter Edition in Calgary is a natural next step,” said Helen Stoumbos, CEO/Founder of The GOOD Games. “Winter is not downtime. It is playtime. Together with our partners in Calgary, we are building a festival where people can watch, play, and experience sport in new ways. Our ambition is to grow this into Canada’s biggest winter festival of sport and a yearly celebration of movement for all.”
The GOOD Games will be part of an exciting line-up of events adding to the energy of Calgary's Chinook Blast Winter Festival, where the best of art, music, theatre, sport and recreation will be on display.
The event will welcome athletes, families, and fans for three days of sport and celebration, delivering cultural and economic impact for the city. “We’re thrilled that Calgary has been selected as the host city for the GOOD Game’s expansion into a winter multi-sport event and festival. With our world-class athletes and facilities, which now includes the BMO Centre, we are ready to welcome this one-of-a-kind event to our city,” says Carson Ackroyd, Senior Vice President of Sales at Tourism Calgary. “The GOOD Games will generate meaningful economic opportunity for our partner businesses while providing a truly unique opportunity to Calgarians to experience new sports and participate in a number of events.”
What to expect
• A free to attend festival experience with music, food, demonstrations and main stage moments
• Signature competitions and showcases across multiple sports
• Try it sessions, family-friendly challenges, and learn to play experiences for all ages and abilities
• Adaptive, Indigenous and para sport programming designed with accessibility at the centre.
More than medals, The GOOD Games is about legacy. The Winter Edition will strengthen healthy habits, deepen community connection, and invite participation in sport at every age and stage.”Calgary is excited to welcome the inaugural winter edition of GOOD Games to our city. As a multi-sport event and festival, the GOOD Games are a terrific representation of Calgary’s values around sport, movement and community,” says Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek. “I have no doubt that Calgarians will bring the energy, community spirit, and the competition to this great event!
Inclusivity remains core to the mission. Adaptive and para sport partners will help deliver hands-on programming so more people can participate and feel welcome. “Wheelchair Rugby at The Good Games is a great opportunity to showcase an action-packed weekend of high-level wheelchair rugby in front of many who have never had the opportunity to witness the sport. Clubs from all over western Canada will participate in the Good Games for the first time but Wheelchair Rugby has been a Canadian sport since 1976. Athletes, female and male, will be able to show off their skills and abilities in a fast-paced environment where teams must work together in different roles to triumph as a club. We are excited to bring adapted sport to a festival style event like the Good Games and cannot wait to share wheelchair rugby with everyone involved.” Said Brayden Waterman from Wheelchair Sports Alberta. Calgary’s Winter Edition builds on the success of recent GOOD Games events and anchors a national roadmap to bring a reimagined, inclusive festival of sport to communities across Canada.
