Scandium Canada Applauds Naskapi Nation's Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw Project, Reiterates Commitment to Community-Focused Development in Nunavik
MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC — June 17, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Scandium Canada Ltée (TSX-V: SCD) has welcomed the launch of the Naskapi Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw project, an initiative led by the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach to assess potential multi-user access corridors within their traditional territory. The project aims to evaluate environmental, cultural, social, and economic implications associated with these corridors.
According to information released by the Naskapi Nation on June 12, the initiative is a community-driven effort involving its members, Elders, land users, and neighboring First Nations. The project's goal is to gather comprehensive information and foster knowledge sharing to support informed decision-making regarding its outcome.
Scandium Canada expressed its belief that decisions regarding infrastructure in Nunavik should involve all First Nations and Inuit who share the territory. The company supports the Naskapi Nation's leadership in evaluating access corridor options and acknowledges the priorities guiding this process, which include responsible environmental stewardship, traditional land use, Indigenous governance, and collaboration with Indigenous peoples and corridor users.
“We welcome the leadership demonstrated by the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach in the context of the potential multi-user access corridor for the Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw project,” stated Guy Bourassa, Chief Executive Officer of Scandium Canada. “What matters to us is that the benefits of development fully serve the people whose territory makes it possible. We genuinely wish to foster a relationship that provides lasting and shared value to the Naskapi Nation and neighboring communities.”
Scandium Canada emphasized that the Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw project is an independent undertaking by the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach. The company fully respects the objectives of this evaluation, which is focused on collecting necessary information for informed decisions about future infrastructure options.
In parallel with the Naskapi Nation's initiative, Scandium Canada continues its engagement with Indigenous communities related to the Crater Lake project, which includes a hydrometallurgical plant in Schefferville. This engagement aims to promote dialogue, understand community priorities, and build lasting relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and collaboration.
